Gov’t gives more authorities for environment police

VGP – Environment agencies can apply urgent measures to suspend activities of enterprises which poison the environment and seize their items or facilities for investigation.

The regulation is stipulated in the new decree approved by the Government chief on preventing and fighting crimes and infringements on environment-related issues.

Agencies, directly specializing in combating environmental pollution, are free to apply modern technologies, supervise and collect evidence of polluters and request them to provide data for the investigation.

Environment agencies will be established at the Ministry of Public Security, provincial-level police and district-level police.

Under the decree, environment agencies will be responsible for working with other agencies to handle accusations and punish activities which violate the regulations on environment protection.

On the other hand, agencies, organizations, and individuals have to timely expose and provide information of pollution cases for the competent agencies.

The decree will come into effect on September 1, 2010./.
