Gov’t chief greets Czech President

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Czech President Milos Zeman on April 17 (local time) as part of the former’s official visit to the Czech Republic.

PM Phuc affirmed that Viet Nam always attaches importance to and hopes to cement and deepen the friendship and multifaceted ties with traditional friend countries in the Eastern Europe of which the Czech Republic is a priority. 

He expressed his satisfaction at the positive progresses in the bilateral ties. Regarding political and diplomatic ties, the two sides exchanged reciprocal visits at all levels including the official tour of former State President Truong Tan Sang to Czech in 2015 and the State visit of President Milos Zeman to Viet Nam in 2017. 

The PM took the occasion to thank the Czech Republic for creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community and contributing to the bilateral ties. 

PM Phuc also proposed the Czech Republic in general and President Milos Zeman in particular support the signing of the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU- Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) as soon as possible. 

In reply, President Milos Zeman stressed that he attaches importance to the traditional ties between Viet Nam and the Czech Republic, highly valuing the official visit of PM Phuc. He was convinced that the abundant overseas Vietnamese students and the over 65,000 Vietnamese community in Czech would contribute to boosting the bilateral ties. 

The President also expressed his impression of his latest visit to Viet Nam in 2017. He was pleased to witness the positive developments in the two countries' proactive realization of the signed agreements including the plan on a direct route linking Ha Noi and Prague. 

The President believed that once the EVFTA and the EVIPA are approved the traditional ties and multifaceted relations between Viet Nam and the Czech Republic would flourish in the coming time./.
