GIZ, Siemens help enhance resistance capacity of Mekong Delta cities

VGP - The Southwest Steering Committee and leaders of several provinces and cities in Mekong Delta region met with Severin Peters, an expert from the German Agency for International Development (GIZ) to discuss measures to boost resistance capacity of regional cities within a project funded by the organization and Siemens.

Speaking at the meeting, Nguyen Phong Quang, Deputy Head of the Committee stressed the capital necessity to carry out projects and solutions to cope with climate change. He lauded GIZ and Siemens for implementing the project in the future.

Peters said that Can Tho, Ca Mau and Kien Giang provinces would be selected to implement the project before other localities in the Mekong Delta region.

The project will be funded by such potential donors as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

After the meeting, Peters is planned to meet with leaders of the three selected localities to realize the project, which is expected to be carried out from the end of this year to mid-2015.
