The fund is aimed at promoting the preservation and protection of biodiversity at four national parks of Tam Đảo, Cúc Phương, Bạch Mã and Cát Tiên.

Among 13 million ha of forests in Việt Nam, some 10 million ha are natural forests, of which 2 million ha have rich biodiversity.

However, the biodiversity is being seriously threatened mainly by migration, changes in land use, depletion of natural resources, and unstable forest exploitation.

Since 1990, the German Government has provided Việt Nam with some €1 billion to conduct cooperation and development projects, mostly those on healthcare, economic reform assistance and environment.
