General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh starts Brazil visit

VNGOP – Vietnamese Communist Party chief Nông Đức Mạnh arrived at Rio de Janeiro in the morning of May 28 (Hanoi time zone), starting his official visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

On the same day, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh had a meeting with Mr. Serhio Cabran, Governor of the Rio State, and attended the inauguration ceremony of the Brazil-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce. He also paid a visit to the Rio de Janeiro City Museum.

The official welcoming ceremony given to General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation will be solemnly conducted at the Presidential Palace in Brasilia Capital on May 29.

Previously, in the evening of May 27, upon leaving San Chiago (Chile) for Brazil, the Vietnamese Communist Party chief sent his message to thank Chilean President Michelle Bachelet Jeria.

In the message, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh expressed his pleasure at the important agreements reached by the two sides. He conveyed to the Chilean President, Government and people his deep gratitude for their friendly and royal treatment to him and his entourage. "I am convinced that our traditional friendship and good cooperation, especially in economy and trade, will increasingly develop for the benefits of peoples of Vietnam and Chile," the Party chief said.
