The Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) has proposed accommodation establishments to sponsor room and catering fees for foreigners who have been stranded in Viet Nam due to the complex developments of COVID-19.

Recently, the VNAT has required localities to review and collect the statistics of foreign visitors who have been stranded in Viet Nam due to objective reasons such as medical quarantine, temporarily suspended flights and border lines close.

During their stay in the hotels, accommodation establishments must launch medical supervisions on these foreigners and take measures to protect their health.

Earlier, the Immigration Department, under the Ministry of Public Security has extended temporary residence permit for foreigners who are currently in the country and unable to leave because of travel restrictions or quarantine order related to COVID-19.

Foreign nationals entering Viet Nam visa-free or on tourist visas, including e-visa, who had their period of stay expired but unable to leave the country because of the pandemic can apply for an extension of temporary residence of up to 30 days.

Those who overstay their temporary residence permit for less than 10 days due to force majeure will be exempt from fine.

The Ministry of Transport is joining hand with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and foreign diplomatic agencies in Viet Nam to support foreigners who desire to return home.

Accordingly, on April 6 and 8, Viet Nam Airlines launched two special flights from Viet Nam to Germany to bring nearly 600 European citizens home.

On April 13, 100 British citizens who stranded in Viet Nam and Cambodia due to the COVID-19 pandemic were taken home on a Viet Nam Airlines flight.
