For women’s greater contributions to socio-economic development

Promoting and securing women’s role and contributions to socio-economic development has been a common law-governed recognition in Việt Nam

The event was chaired by Minister of Labor-War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân with the participation of Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Helen Clark and representatives from diplomatic corps.

Opening the seminar, Minister Ngân said that in response to the deployment of UN-led Action Plan for a better world with 8 priorities, including gender equality, the Vietnamese Party and State have always paid due attention and resources to social affairs in general and issues relating to gender equality in particular.

She praised the UNDP’s effective projects and assistance on the development and enforcement of policies concerning gender equality and women’s rights improvement in Việt Nam.

Mrs. Helen Clark appreciated the country’s achievements in promoting the social role of women, saying that she was deeply impressed, during her third visit to Việt Nam, with outstanding socio-economic progresses here that have laid a firm foundation for the Southeast Asian country to grow stronger and more steadily in the future.

She also talked about her experience of how to help women further energize themselves. Meanwhile participants to the event shared practical lessons on making laws and policies on gender equality.

Currently, the UNDP and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are co-organizers of the on-going project on strengthening the capacity of woman cadres working in ministries, sectors and localities.

The project, which lasts from 2008 to 2013, functions as a platform to provide legal proposals relating to women’s development, capacity-building for woman leaders, and enhancement of partnership between Vietnamese woman leaders and international organizations.
