Located in the suburban district of Từ Liêm (Hà Nội), the €20-million station was funded by the French Government.

In short terms, images taken by the satellite will be used to inventory land and forest, locate sites of forest fires and deforestation.

The station is also supposed to facilitate emergency relief in case of natural calamities.

In the future, the technology will be widely exploited by the private sector for housing development and tourism investment, said Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Lâm, Director of NRSC.
