First months deluged with export contracts

In January and February, rice exporters have contracted for selling nearly 900,000 tons, doubling the figure of the same period last year. The Philippines alone, Việt Nam’s biggest rice importer, ordered 1.5 million tons for the whole year and will have received one third by late February.  

Some fruits for export have also gained large-quantity contracts.

Bình Minh District of the southern province of Vĩnh Long, which is famous for its delicious Năm Roi grapefruit, has contracted for the delivery of 70 containers of the fruit in 2009, trying to earn VND 7 billion. Half of the batch will depart for the European market.

The Bến Tre Import and Export Joint-stock Company revealed that it is realizing an export contract with three containers of 54,400 coconuts delivered to the Republic of Korea and Australia. The yellow-skilled 8-month coconuts with fizzy milk are a favorite in these two markets.

Seafood exporters have also attained many contracts. Those from Cà Mau Province earned US $45 million in January, up 25% compared with the same period last year. They are expecting the estimated revenue of US $50-60 million this month.

For the garment and textile sector, major companies such as Việt Tiến, May 10 and Nhà Bè, have gained orders for the entire first quarter. Some are required to offer products even until the end of June.
