The operation was performed on June 17 on a 48-year-old male patient from the northern province of Nam Định. The patient has recovered from the two-hour operation.

The success stemmed from high determination of doctors of the Việt Nam Military Medical University with the assistance of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of National Defense, central hospitals, and the Taiwanese Cheng Hsin Hospital.

The successful heart transplant is expected to save more patients with severe heart failure.

It is reported that the Việt Nam Military Medical University also successfully performed the first kidney and liver transplants in Việt Nam in 1992 and 2004 respectively./.
