EWEC forum opens in Quảng Trị

VGP - The East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) forum opened on June 26 in the central province of Quảng Trị with the participation of over 500 delegates, including officials and entrepreneurs from Việt Nam, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Japan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The forum, held by the provincial People’s Committee in coordination with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirms the important role and position of the EWEC in the development of cities and provinces along the corridor.

At the forum, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Nguyễn Xuân Phúc said, nearly 4 years after the launching of the EWEC, transport and trade among Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Việt Nam have been improved.

With the financial support from the ADB and Japan, the EWEC countries have built and upgraded their infrastructure and fostered cooperation on border-gate administrative reform, tourism development, and investment promotion.

Many delegates to the forum showed their confidence that, thanks to great efforts made by all stakeholders, the EWEC cooperation will create more attractive business opportunities.
