Electricity price to rise 5%

VGP – Electricity price will increase by 5%, from VND 1,369 (US$ 6 cents) per kWh to VND 1,437 (US$ 6.2 cents),as from December 22.

The move is part of a circular issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on December 20.

Ladder electricity retail price will pick up VND 66-115 in every level. The price for poor and low-income households will remain unchanged at VND 933 per kWh for levels up to 50kWh.

Prices of electricity for regular households will be added VND 66 per kWh, from VND 1,284 to VND 1,350, for the first 100kWh. From 101-150 kWh, prices will increase VND 88 per kWh, from VND 1,457 to VND 1,545 per kWh. From 151-200 kWh, electricity will be VND104 more per kWh, from VND1,834 to VND1,947 per kWh. From 200-400 kWh, prices will jump VND 115 per kWh.

Electricity retail prices for production will be VND 754-2,177 per kWh at rush, normal and low hours. 

This is the second time the electricity prices have been adjusted this year following the first one on July 1.  

Noticeably, the latest decision was made after the Electricity of Viet Nam had reported business profits in 2012./.
