DPM Minh attends Mekong-RoK Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

VGP – The 4th Mekong-Republic of Korea (RoK) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, themed “Miracle of the Han River, Rise of the Mekong River” opened on July 29 in Seoul, RoK.

Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh led the Vietnamese delegation to attend the meeting, which was held to celebrate the “Mekong-RoK Exchange Year”.

The Ministers discussed the implementation of Mekong-RoK cooperation and put forth cooperative orientations in the future.

They treasured the achievements of the second Mekong- RoK Business Forum held in Viet Nam in May, agreeing to make the forum become the main channel to attract more private investment.

They also discussed regional and international issues such as the Korean Peninsular situations, the East Sea, the political situation in Thailand, food security and climate change adaptation.

The 2014-2017 Action Plan and regulations on the use  of Mekong-RoK development fund were adopted at the meeting.

Speaking at the event, Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh stressed on the importance of strengthening infrastructure, logistics, human resource connectivity for the development of the Greater Sub-Mekong region.

Economic development must be integrated into environmental protection and sustainable management and use of natural resources in general and Mekong river water, he said.
