Deputy PM welcomes UN Under-Secretary-General

VNGOP – Deputy PM, Foreign Minister Phạm Gia Khiêm had a reception to Mr. Ibrahim Gambari, UN Under-Secretary-General, Special Advisor on Myanmar in the morning of November 24 in Hà Nội.

Special Advisor Ibrahim Gambari revealed that his visit to Việt Nam aims at exchanging views between the UN and ASEAN members, including Việt Nam, on dealing with Myanmar-related issues.

The guest highly valued Việt Nam’s important position in ASEAN and expressed his hope that Việt Nam will proactively collaborate with ASEAN, UN and other countries in explaining the UN’s mission.

Deputy PM Khiêm confirmed that, as Myanmar’s neighbor and an ASEAN member, Việt Nam is always fond of recent situations in Myanmar. In their meetings made during the Myanmar PM’s recent visit to Việt Nam, the Vietnamese leaders affirmed Việt Nam’s consistent opinion to respect the Myanmar people’s right of self-determination, said the Deputy PM. He lauded the cooperation between Myanmar and the UN over the past time and expected that the cooperation would be further boosted on the basis of respect for UN Charter.

Deputy PM Khiêm appreciated the UN’s role in dealing with many regional and global issues. He affirmed that Việt Nam will do its utmost to solve international issues. However, Việt Nam will not support any embargo against any country, emphasized the Deputy PM.
