Lieutenant General Jeremiah Mateparae stressed that his visit was aimed at discussing with Vietnamese leaders some orientations to expand military cooperation between the two countries, as an act to realize the bilateral agreements made during State President Nguyễn Minh Triết’s New Zealand tour in September 2007.

At the reception, the guest praised Việt Nam’s initiative to put the protection of common people and children in armed conflicts on the table of the United Nations Security Council. He stated that New Zealand wants to learn Việt Nam’s experience of rescue and humanitarian aid.

Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm asserted that, once being a war-weary country, Việt Nam has a deep sympathy to all war-torn countries and wants to support them through international regimes.

Both the host and the guest agreed to enhance cooperation and exchange more experience in the military field, so as to ensure security and peace in the regions and the world.
