Deputy PM Minh met with acting US trade representative

VGP – As part of his official visit to the US, Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh had separate meetings with Acting US Trade Representative Stephen Vaught, assistants to senators of the Democratic and Republican Parties.

He also met with leaders of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the Heritage Foundation, the Trade Council and US businesses operating in Viet Nam.

During the meetings, Deputy PM, FM Minh affirmed Vietnamese Government is ready to cooperate with the new US Administration to sustain the pace of the bilateral ties, especially in economy-trade, improvement of investment environment, and facilitation of US businesses in Viet Nam.

He highly valued the US businesses’ commitment to active support for Viet Nam to successfully host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week scheduled in Da Nang in November this year.

The assistants to US senators reiterated the two parties’ support for the Viet Nam-US comprehensive partnership, pledging to continue assistance to Viet Nam to deal with the war consequences, especially agent orange/dioxin decontamination and mine clearance.

They also shared the US Congress’ concerns over the East Sea issue, including the maintenance of security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation and the peaceful settlement of disputes based on international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Meanwhile, US business representatives also voiced support for stronger ties between the two countries and spoke highly of the Vietnamese Government’s policies to create a fair and healthy playground for foreign investors, including those from the US.

They also pledged to strongly support Viet Nam to ensure the success of the APEC Year in the Southeast Asia country./.
