Đà Lạt Flower Festival opens, starting celebratory events towards capital city’s 1000th birthday

VGP - Đà Lạt Flower Festival 2010, the first of series of cultural events celebrating the 1000th anniversary of Thăng Long-Hà Nội, opened on January 2 in the heart of Đà Lạt City in the Central Highlands province of Lâm Đồng.

The grand opening ceremony full of meaningful cultural performances honored flower growers and floriculture.

During the first day of the festival, four Vietnamese records were made, including the biggest flower statue of the Goddess of Mercy, the first Vietnamese person to make scented fresh flowers, the biggest scented fresh flower picture, and the biggest flower Tortoise Tower.

Addressing the opening ceremony, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết stressed that the Đà Lạt Flower Festival 2010 is a chance for the Central Highlands city to introduce its potential. He also called on investors to come to Đà Lạt in particular and Lâm Đồng in general. “It is certain that you will be successful when investing in this potential, beautiful and romatic land,” he said.

On behalf of the Government, Minister of Public Security Lê Hồng Anh handed over the certificate recognizing Đà Lạt as a city of flowers to the municipal leaders.

The festival, the third of its kind in Đà Lạt so far, will last until January 4.
