The news was made public on May 31 in Hà Nội at the seminar “Food security and climate change.”

The scenario of one-meter sea-level rise, climatologists said, may damage 5,000 square kilometers (a third of the area) of the Red River Delta and flood 15,000-20,000 square kilometers (a half) of the Mekong Delta.

While the agricultural land resources are being narrowed, food security for a rising population in Việt Nam is a huge challenge.

It is estimated that by 2020, the country need to raise its food productivity by half to feed its over 100 million population.

According to Mr. Đặng Hùng Võ, a former Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, scientific applications to agricultural production are of great significance in order to raise productivity./.
