China, VN begin fishery inspection in Gulf of Tonkin

VGP – Chinese and the Vietnamese coast guards in the Gulf of Tonkin on April 24 began their joint fishery inspection for 2019.

The Chinese side had deputy head of the Nan Haibranch office Liu Tianrong and Vessels 3305 and 46305, while the Vietnamese side included Vice Commander of the Vietnamese Coast Guard 1 Luong Cao Khai and Vessels 8003 and 8004.

Mr Liu Tianrong said ties between the Vietnamese and Chinese coast guards have been growing rapidly and substantially, contributing to promoting extensive cooperation between the Vietnamese and Chinese law enforcement forces while raising mutual understanding between the two countries’ governments and peoples.

Both sides held talks onboard Vessel CSB 8004 to reach consensus on fishery inspection in the area, including monitoring the implementation of the fishery cooperation agreement at nine points in the Gulf of Tonkin’s joint fishing area. 

It was the 17th time they had conducted joint inspection since the agreement took effect. Activities include expertise exchange, inspection and supervision of fishermen’s fishing vessels. 

The joint inspection will last till April 26.
