Belgian diplomat visits VN

VGP – The first political consultation at deputy foreign ministerial-level was held in Ha Noi on October 15 as part of Secretary General of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dirk Achten’s visit to Viet Nam from October 13-17.

The two sides informed each other about recent socio-economic developments and foreign policies in their countries.

Mr. Dirk Achten highly valued achievements gained by Viet Nam during its renewal process, contributing to improving Viet Nam’s position in the region and the world.

Bot sides exchanged and agreed on measures to beef up the bilateral ties through enhanced exchange of delegations at all levels, continue to coordinate in organizing activities to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties, create favorable conditions for business communities to cooperation in priority areas like seaport development, logistics, transport, green growth, high-tech.

They also agreed to coordinate in the implementation of joint development projects, including those of the Viet Nam-Belgium Indicative Cooperation Program for the 2011-2015.

Belgium committed to maintaining support for human resource training through offering postgraduate scholarships and cooperation among education and research establishments.

The two countries agreed to boost consultations between their ministries and agencies, welcomed the results of the second meeting of economic commission in Ha Noi from October 14-15.

Both sides also exchanged views on a wide range of regional and international issues of common concern, pledging to continue close coordination at international forums and organizations.

As the coordinator of ASEAN – EU relations, Viet Nam vows to support Belgium to enhance cooperation with ASEAN meanwhile Belgium backs Viet Nam to expand ties with the EU.

During his stay, the Belgian diplomat also paid a courtesy call to Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on Ocotber 16./.
