Australia helps An Giang control flood

VGP - Representatives of the southern province of An Giang and the Australian Government on Wednesday signed an arrangement for the project on testing the operation of a local flood control system.

Under the deal, worth of AU$ 950,000, the Australian Government agreed to help the local authority reinforce, operate, maintain and manage the North Vàm Nao flood control system in the period of 2009-2010.

The AusAID-funded North Vàm Nao System, was put into operation in 2007 in order to mitigate impacts of floods, facilitate road and waterway transport, and create favorable conditions for local farmers to increase crops, even in flood season.
