ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting opens in Myanmar

Speaking at the opening ceremony, President Thein Sein stressed on gigantic achievements of the block over the past 47 years and its determination to continue building a strong, peaceful and prosperous ASEAN Community.

ASEAN needs to promote its central role in building the regional security architecture on the basis of heightening the values of cooperative tools and frameworks in the region, accelerating intra economic links, narrowing development gap, reducing poverty and coping with emerging challenges in an effective manner.

The host President also called on ASEAN member countries to give prominence to the sense of solidarity, enhancing the prestige and position, and creating a firm foundation for the post-2015 development of the ASEAN Community./.
