Aquaculture sector competitiveness enhancement plan approved

VGP – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved a plan to improve the competitiveness of the aquaculture sector in the context of international economic integration.

The plan is worth VND102.2 billion, including VND40 billion from the State budget and VND62.2 billion from the businesses and the international organizations.

The plan aims to upgrade the aquaculture sector in the context of the country's international economic integration and the implementation of the Free Trade Agreements to serve for restructuring the aquatic sector in a value-added way and sustainable development in line with new rural establishment.

Legal documents and regulations on aquatic processing, imports of aquatic materials and responsibility for preservation, processing and consumption will be reviewed and supplemented.

It also heads to strengthen international cooperation with other countries in the region and the world to improve management and integration capacities of the aquaculture sector as well as attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in this field.

Advantages in tariff to enhance exports of key items, expansion of potential markets and establishment of a national trade brand for aquatic products will also be a focus.
