The PM recently approved the establishment of An Giang BGEZ, one of nine major economic zones of Việt Nam.

The BGEZ is supposed to contribute to socio-economic development of the locality and the Mekong Delta.

Serving as a center for economic, commercial, industrial, tourist and service development and a transportation hub, the BGEZ is expected to cover an area of around 26,583 ha and have a population of around 180,000 in 2030.

Through three border gates, namely Tịnh Biên, Vĩnh Xương và Khánh Bình in the An Giang BGEZ, Vietnamese goods can be exported to foreign markets in Cambodia, the Mekong Sub-region and other Southeast Asian countries.

After two years in operation, the An Giang BGEZ has helped to raise local export turnover to US $1.1 billion in 2009. So far, 25 investors are doing business there with the registered capital of around VND 1,600 billion.
