The overview of Việt Nam’s first solid waste treatment project in Hồ Chí Minh City |
Under the scheme, by 2015, 85% of urban solid waste will be collected and treated in accordance with the country’s environmental standards, 60%of which is recycled.
The figures will be raised to 95% and 85% respectively by 2020.
The first plant of this kind was ground-broken in Hồ Chí Minh City in July 2005 with the minimum treatment capacity of 500 tons of solid waste/day.
The project, funded by the US-based California Waste Solutions with the total investment up to US $400 million, is capable of producing 600 tons of organic fertilizer for domestic agricultural production and export.
Meanwhile, the first solid waste treatment station using made-in-Việt Nam equipment was set to work in the central port city of Đà Nẵng in October last year.
The VND 120-billion plant is designed to convert some 650 tons of waste a day into rapeseed oil (RO) and palm oil (PO) for agricultural and industrial production.
