Agricultural sector runs US$ 3.3 billion trade surplus in Jan-May period

VGP – Total export turnover of the agro-forestry-fishery sector was estimated at US$ 16.1 billion in the first five months of 2019, representing a year-on-year growth of 1.2%. Meanwhile, import turnover was projected at US$ 12.8 billion. The sector ran a trade surplus of nearly US$ 3.3 billion, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported (MARD).

The MARD announced that agro-forestry-fishery exports earned US$ 3.62 billion   in May, brining the total export volume to US$ 16.1 billion in the first five months, up 1.2% against the same period last year. 

Meanwhile, total import of agro-forestry-fishery products hit about US$ 12.8 billion, up 2.1% against the same period last year. 

The sector ran a trade surplus of nearly US$ 3.3 billion in the January-May period. 

The MARD assessed that export turnover of the agro-forestry-fishery sector rebounded after months of slowdowns.

In the first five months, agricultural exports pocketed US$ 7.7 billion, down 9.5% against the same period last year. 

Aquatic export was estimated at US$ 3.15 billion. Forestry export was projected at US$ 4.25 billion./.
