ADB sponsors VN’s secondary education program

VNGOP – The State Bank of Việt Nam (SBV) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), on May 19, jointly inked a US $0.6-million non-refundable aid for the Technical Assistance Project “University Foundation Programme”.

Mr. Ayumi Konishi, ADB Country Director in Việt Nam, disclosed that the aid will help the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MET) and ADB design a comprehensive reform package and carry out an investment project. New initiatives and policies include an alternative mechanism of scholarship and loans granting, the application of international standards in assessing student’s academic results, the formulation of standards for junior secondary teachers, the effective production and provision of text books at reasonable prices, and the popularization of information technology and communication in education.
At the signing ceremony, SBV Deputy Governor Nguyễn Văn Bình pledged to use the ADB’s fund effectively in order to fulfill the set targets on schedule.
