11th Party Congress opens in HN

VGP - The 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) opened at 8 am on January 12 at the Mỹ Đình National Convention Centre in Hà Nội with the participation of 1,377 delegates, representing for over 3.6 million Party members, local and international guests.

The National Party Congress also drew the attendance of former Party General Secretaries, former State Presidents, former PMs, former National Assembly Chairmen, former Politburo members, former Party Secretaries.

Representatives of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, outstanding professionals, the youth, and members of the 10th Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission also partook in the event.

Politburo member and State President Nguyễn Minh Triết delivered the opening speech to kick off the 11th National Party Congress.

Party General Secretary Nông Đức  Mạnh read report on documents of the 11th National Party Congress themed “Continue enhancing the Party’s leadership capacity and combativeness, promoting the nation’s synergy, comprehensively boosting the đổi mới (renewal) process, creating the fundamentals for Việt Nam to basically become a modern-oriented industrial country by 2020,”

The 11th Party Congress will discuss and adopt the platform for national construction in the transitional period to socialism (supplemented and developed in 2011); the 10-year socio-economic development strategy for 2011-2020; report on the review of the Party Statute implementation with some proposals for supplements and amendments; and elect the Central Committee./.
