So far, in Viet Nam, origin tracing remains scattered due to the lack of connection and sharing among sectors and localities.

Hence, the portal for origin tracing is expected to serve as an effective tool to promote traceability not only in Viet Nam but also with other countries. It applies the GS1 Traceability Standards, a common commercial language that defines the rules and basic requirements when designing a traceability that effectively connects all parties in the supply chain.

Origin tracing also contributes to promoting the digital transformation at enterprises, optimizing operational efficiency, improving productivity, product quality and enhancing brand and building trust with consumers as well as creating a transparent business environment.

The system would also provide accurate data for market analysis and building plans, strategies and policies to orient production towards international standards.

The national traceability portal would also rely on data, statistics and AI technology to provide analysis.

Earlier, the Prime Minister's Decision 100/QD-TTg was issued on January, 2019, approving the scheme of deploying, applying and managing the traceability system with the goal to build and operate this national portal on product and goods traceability.

Statistics showed that there were about 6,500 planting areas and 1,600 packaging facilities in 33 provinces and cities that granted codes for exports.

To date, 710 codes have been revoked due to failure in meeting the quality requirements of importing markets./.
