Labor force soars slightly in Q1

VGP - People in the working group in Viet Nam reached 52.4 million in January-March period, an increase of 175,800 people from the same period last year. The labor market totally came back to the pre-COVID-19 level, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The GSO reported that in Q1, the number of newly recruited people were 174,100 higher than that of the same period last year.

Unemployment rate among the group of working ages decreased by 0.01 percentage point to 2.24 percent against the previous quarter. Especially, in urban area, the rate has been kept below 3 percent since Q1, 2022.

The average monthly income of Vietnamese workers was VND7.6 million (US$335), an increase of VND549,000.

Some 27.8 percent of Vietnamese workers has at least one training certificate, higher than the rate of 27 percent last year.

However, the population of untrained workers in Viet Nam remains high with about 37.8 million. The proportion of workers in the informal sector in the economy is still quite high. They are doing informal jobs, accounting for 64.6 percent of the total employment in the economy./.
