These senators made the point during their meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Washington D.C. on September 19 (local time).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh underlined that Viet Nam considers the U.S. a partner of strategic importance.

The recent upgradation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership during President Joe Biden’s visit to Ha Noi would open up a new chapter for strengthening bilateral cooperation in all fields, including cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments.

The Prime Minister spoke highly of the U.S. Senate, and the Committee on Foreign Relations in particular, for supporting and promoting Viet Nam-U.S. relations over the past years, including resolving the war consequences.

He emphasized that the support and cooperation of the two countries legislative bodies plays an important role in concretizing new frameworks and areas of cooperation outlined in the comprehensive strategic partnership in the coming time.

The Prime Minister expressed his wish that the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations would support the two countries in further enhancing cooperation in economy, trade, investment, science-technology, innovation, semiconductor production, energy conversion, climate change response, as well as in settling the war aftermath.

The two sides discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern. They agreed to promote the central role of ASEAN and the ASEAN-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and further strengthen the Mekong-U.S. Partnership./.
