Viet Nam sends six female athletes to the first World Qualification Tournament which is ongoing in Busto Arsizio, Italy.

Anh is the last one to take the stage after all four teammates were disqualified.

Competing in the women's 54kg class, Anh defeated Estefani Almanzar of Dominica 4-1 in the first round and Hanna Lakotar of Hungary 5-0 in the second one.

In the quarter-finals, she faced Tunisian Islem Ferchichi who was considered a tough rival due to her strong physique.

However, the African boxer could not bring her advantage into play. It was Anh who set up her domination in all three rounds and won 5-0.

Being one of four strongest athletes in this class, Anh automatically qualified for the Paris Games.

She is the fifth Olympic participant of Viet Nam boxing in history. Previously, they were Nguyen Van Duong and Nguyen Thi Tam at the Tokyo 2020, Dang Hieu Hien and Do Tien Tuan at the Seoul 1988.

Anh, 26, is the national champion. The An Giang Province-born athlete won her first international title at the Thailand Open in 2022.

The second World Qualification Tournament will be organised from May 23 to June 3 in Bangkok, Thailand .

Up to 51 athletes (20-23 women and 25-28 men) will receive their Olympic slots from this event. Qualified ones are not allowed to compete there.

Viet Nam's competitors will be Nguyen Thi Tam (women's 50kg), Nguyen Huyen Tran (women's 57kg), Ha Thi Linh (women's 60kg), Hoang Ngoc Mai (women's 66kg) and Luu Diem Quynh (women's 75kg).

In Paris, boxing matches will be organised from July 27 to August 10 in the Roland Garros Stadium and the North Paris Arena.

Currently, Viet Nam has five Olympic participants. They are Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming), Nguyen Thi That (cyling), Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen (shooting) and Vo Thi Kim Anh (boxing).

The country sets a target of having from 12-15 athletes at the Paris Games./.
