Gov’t continues to provide drought relief

VGP – The Government lately decided to put aside VND 100.1 billion (US $5.3 million) in the State budget for drought mitigation activities in favor of the winter-spring crop.

Since the beginning of 2010, the Vietnamese Government has provided VND 291.3 billion for drought mitigation – Illustration photo 

Under the decision, 12 municipal cities and provinces and two irrigation systems will get the assistance.

Especially, the northern province of Thanh Hóa will obtain VND 15 billion (US $794,000), the biggest amount of aid, and the northern province of Yên Bái will receive the smallest, VND 3 billion (US $158,000). 

This is the third time in 2010 the Government has taken such action to join hands with localities to mitigate negative impacts of droughts.

Earlier, the Government poured VND 46.6 billion (US $2.5 million) for six northern provinces and VND 144.6 billion for 13 Mekong Delta provinces to overcome the natural disaster.
