More regulations on wildlife conservation

VGP – Việt Nam will map out a special conservation program for each species which belongs to the list of protection. A special agency is also founded to take responsibility for the conservation work.

The Government chief recently issued Decree 65/2010/NĐ-CP, stipulating the implementation of the Biodiversity Law. The Decree will take effect on July 30, 2010. 

Valuable and rare species include wildlife animals, and plants, crop varieties and domestic animals, micro-organism and mushrooms which are named in Việt Nam’s Red List of Threatened Species. or are endemic species, or have a special characteristics in terms of science, ecology, scenery, environment, culture and history. 

Every five years, a survey will be conducted to count the number of individuals and assess living environment of each endangered species.

Meanwhile, natural reserves will be established for those species.

The decree also sets criteria for natural reserves at all levels.

Nearly 900 species are on the brink of extinction and at least 10 more have vanished in Việt Nam, according to the 2007 Red Data Book./.
