The State Bank of Việt Nam (SBV), in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, will be in charge of putting the policy into reality.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development recently instructed the Northern Food Corporation (Vinafood 1) to purchase 200,000 tons of salt for reserve.

In the first five months, salt output reached 726,000 tons, accounting for 176.2% against the same period last year, said the Department of Trade Processing for Agro-forestry-Fisheries Products and Salt Production. So far, salt price in domestic market is likely on the decline.

The retail price of salt fluctuates from VND 600-1,000 per kg in the North, VND 250-400 in the South-eastern region, and the Central Coast, and VND 300-600 in the Mekong Delta.

The dropping price of salt is a big difficulty for production and livelihood of producers. Hence, the policy targets to ease their burdens.
