Gov’t to punish violations against disaster prevention rules

For the first time, a decree on administrative penalties in disaster prevention is issued and comes into effect on March 10, 2010 – Illustration photo  
The Government has just adopted a decree which will impose warnings or pecuniary penalties on infringements against rules on preventing and controlling flood and storms, including peculation of relief money and goods as well as damaging anti-disaster projects.  

Under the decree, individuals or organizations breaking the rules can be fined up to VND 40 million in maximum. In addition, one or two supplement kinds of punishment can be applied, including the revocation of business licenses and confiscation of exhibits.    

Vessels, boats and others illegally anchoring in anti-disaster projects shall have to pay VND 1-2 million.

Individuals or organizations shall be penalized VND 20-40 million for damaging these projects. 

Especially, the act of spreading rumor of storms or foods which undermines social stability shall be punished VND 10-20 million.

Peculation and misuse of relief money and goods shall suffer a penalty of VND 15 million.
