The Permanent Deputy PM required the People’s Committee of Lâm Đồng to work with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and relevant agencies to host the Flower Festival 2010 as a major activity welcoming the millennium of Thăng Long-Hà Nội.

Under the theme “Đà Lạt – a City of Thousand Flowers,” the festival will last for four days, beginning on January 1, 2010.

This is the third time Đà Lạt hosts such a kind of event with a view to introducing its floriculture potential and strength to national and international visitors and honoring flower farmers and floriculture.

There are a series of activities, including the launching of a flower planting campaign; embellishing a road of flowers, a tower of flowers, an island of flowers, an ancient street of flowers; and organizing an exhibition on flowers and ornamental trees, a wine festival night, as well as a cycling contest.

It was reported that Đà Lạt City allocates 3,000 hectares to plant flowers for export. Đà Lạt’s flowers have penetrated into foreign markets including Japan, the Netherlands and ASEAN. The city earned US $90 million from exporting flowers in 2008.
