Hà Nội speeds up preparatory activities for its millennium

VGP – At a meeting of the Organization Committee for the 1000th anniversary of Thăng Long-Hà Nội, held this afternoon, leaders of Hà Nội and relevant agencies stressed their determination to carry out celebratory activities on schedule.

Up to August 2009, 48 departments, districts and towns in the capital city have mapped out and realized their own plan to welcome the grand celebration.

Hà Nội has also closely worked with ministries, agencies and other provinces to prepare for its millennium. At least 20 provinces are proactively launching numerous activities to welcome the capital city’s anniversary.

The grand celebration will be an international event which has been supported by more and more international organizations, including the authority of Seoul and Philéog (France).

The local government of Hà Nội is joining hands with Việt Nam’s diplomatic agencies and embassies to conduct some advertisements for the anniversary, launch the “Hà Nội Cultural Days at UNESCO-Paris,” and campaign for the UNESCO’s resolution on the millennium of Thăng Long-Hà Nội.

At the meeting, Hà Nội Mayor Nguyễn Thế Thảo stated that it is necessary to encourage all walks of life to engage in practical activities welcoming the capital city’s anniversary.

The millennium needs active supports from all economic, security, and other social forces, said Mr. Thảo.

The municipal authority approved a detailed program for celebrative activities and the statutes for the Organization Committee’s operations.
