Australian ambassador tours Mekong Delta to review cooperation potential

VGP - Australian Ambassador to Việt Nam, Mr. Allaster Cox, will make a week-long tour to some provinces in the Mekong Delta in late August to review projects funded by Australia and to assess further development cooperation potential in the region.

He will visit Đồng Tháp, Vĩnh Long, Tiền Giang, Hậu Giang, Cần Thơ, Kiên Giang and Cà Mau from August 23-29.

The ambassador will look into some Australia-funded projects on safe water and sanitary service provision. Successful lessons from the projects, which have been financed with some AU $50 million, could be multiplied nationwide via the national goal program on clean water and rural hygiene.

In Đồng Tháp, the Ambassador will discuss with relevant agencies about the location of a new bridge in Cao Lãnh Town, which will facilitate transportation and commercial activities in the region.

He plans to visit Mỹ Thuận Bridge, a symbol for the Việt Nam-Australia bilateral cooperation, that was built in 2000 with Australian financial assistance.

He will also visit an Oxfam-managed natural disaster mitigation project, where he is expected to announce a new Australian additional aid of AU $380,000 for this project.

In Sa Đéc Town of Đồng Tháp Province, the diplomat will visit a new water treatment plant using funds and technology from Australia
