The Engineering Unit Rotation was established in 2014 to be deployed to a suitable peacekeeping mission when requested by the United Nations (UN).

Speaking at the event, Director of the Viet Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations Hoang Kim Phung said that Viet Nam planned to send 203 officers, including 21 female ones to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

The Engineering Unit Rotation No. 1 will carry out humanitarian activities and assist the United Nations Peacekeeping in deploying tasks that make contributions to peacekeeping and national reconstruction, bringing peaceful and stable life to the host countries.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of National Defense Hoang Xuan Chien asked relevant agencies to speed up the preparations for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations on the deployment of the Engineering Unit Rotation No. 1.

On the occasion, the U.S. officially handed over the transient instructor and student accommodation facility to the Viet Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations.

Viet Nam has sent 179 military officers and staff for UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan, the Central Africa Republic and the Department of Peacekeeping operations at the UN headquarters since June 2014.
