Aviation authority puts forward roadmap for resumption of int'l air routes

VGP – The Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (CAAV) has put forward a roadmap for resumption of international air routes, suggesting the roadmap be implemented in the fourth quarter this year.

In the first stage, the CAAV called for restoration of combo flights for Vietnamese citizens and pilot flights for international tourists to some localities such as Kien Giang, Khanh Hoa and Quang Ninh.

Airlines would only be allowed to carry out combo flights with written approval of recipient localities.

The CAAV proposed resumption of the combo flights from Japan, the Republic of Korea, Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, France, Germany, Russia, Australia, and other markets if possible.

Flights from the above markets would land at Van Don international airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh, Da Nang international airport in the central city of Da Nang, Cam Ranh international airport in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa, and other airports if approved by related local authorities.

For pilot flights for international tourists, foreigners should be required to have proof of negative COVID-19 test result as currently stipulated by the Ministry of Health.

Foreign arrivals should also be required to have full vaccination certificates with the second dose taken at least 14 days and no more than 12 months before their departure time or have certificates of recovery from COVID-19 issued within six months prior to departure.

In the second stage from January 2022, the CAAV proposed that arrivals should only be required to have full vaccination certificates or have certificates of recovery from COVID-19.

For the third phase from April 2022, depending on the progress of vaccinations in Viet Nam and assessment of herd immunity after mass vaccinations, regular flights to Viet Nam would be resumed with post-entry quarantine not required when applying the “vaccine passport” mechanism.
The fourth phase would start from July 2022, marked by resumption of regular international flights, depending on the vaccination progress in Viet Nam and the assessment of herd immunity after vaccinations in society./.
