Pham who is head of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, said though the COVID-19 pandemic has been gradually contained, particularly in Ho Chi Minh City and other southern provinces, there remain numerous difficulties and challenges.

Over the past nearly two years, the pandemic has had serious impacts on all aspects of life and challenged the healthcare system of Viet Nam and many other countries. Our country has experienced hardships posed by the fourth COVID-19 wave tied to the deadly Delta variant while global vaccine shortage made it more difficult for Viet Nam to secure vaccines for our large population.

Throughout the fight against the pandemic, our country has drawn up lessons and formulated strategy for COVID-19 prevention and control: 5K plus vaccine, drugs, technology, and public cooperation.

As the pandemic has been basically put under control, our country is now implementing a roadmap on safe and flexible adaptation to the pandemic and economic recovery.

Over the past 600 days, we lived the spirit of solidarity, sharing and caring and particularly we witnessed the noble gestures, great sarcrifice, enthusiasm, and kindness of our doctors and medical staff across the nation. We are proud of them.

Nearly 24,000 health workers were mobilized to join COVID-19 fight in Ho Chi Minh City and other southern provinces. Of these, around 2,300 health workers were infected with COVID-19 and three of them died of the virus.

PM Pham affirmed that the Party, State and people treasure their lofty contributions and empathize with the sacrifices and losses of our health workders and other front liners.

He also took the occasion to express gratitude to the health workers’ family members who have always provided mental support for our health workers to fulfill their great mission.

He called on ministries, agencies and localities to provide best possible support for our frontline forces while fellow citizens should uphold the sense of responsibility and voluntarily follow preventive measures as this is the practical deed to help our frontline forces in the fight against the pandemic./.
