Exports to Indonesia soar 44.2% despite COVID-19 outbreaks

VGP – Viet Nam gained US$2.51 billion from exporting to Indonesia over the first eight months of 2021, a year-on-year increase of 44.2 percent, according to the General Department of Customs.

Of the above figure, export value of 10 key items totaled US$1.81 billion, accounting for 72 percent of Viet Nam’s total export value to Indonesia.

Key export items include computers, electronics and spare parts reached US$328.38 million, up 127.2 percent compared to the same period last year. It was followed by plastics with US$201.93 million and fiber US$78.43 million, up 107.5 percent and 91.2 percent, respectively. 

Meanwhile, Viet Nam’s imports from Indonesia in August decreasedby 9.5 percent against the previous month to US$624.44 million. 

Viet Nam’s total import value from Indonesia in the first eight months witnessed a year-on-year surge of 51.9 percent to US$4.39 billion. 

Major import items include chemicals (US$441 million, up 95.5 percent), vegetable fats and oils (US$205 million, up 87.9 percent) and coal (US$935 million, up 71.6 percent).
