Viet Nam to receive 50 million Pfizer vaccine doses in Q4

VGP – Around 50 million doses of Pfizer vaccine will arrive in Viet Nam in the fourth quarter of 2021, said Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long at an urgent meeting on COVID-19 prevention and control on August 2. 

The Ministry of Health released a document urging localities to speed up the vaccination rates, stressing the need for them to make plan for vaccination as soonest as possible as well as ensuring safety. 

Viet Nam has so far received over 420,000 Pfizer doses. The Health Ministry has approved Pfizer vaccine for use in Viet Nam along with AstraZeneca, Moderna, Sputnik V and Sinopharm, and Janssen.

Viet Nam launched the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign on July 10 with a goal to acquire 150 million doses for around 75 million people, or 70% of the country’s population.

More than 100 million doses from various sources and providers have been committed for distribution in Viet Nam this year.

To date, 16 million COVID-19 vaccine doses among 17.6 million doses received by Viet Nam have been distributed to localities. 

Ho Chi Minh City, the current biggest coronavirus hotspot in the country, has taken the lead in the number of administered vaccine injections. 

As of late August 2, 6,959,197 vaccine doses were administered, with 712,864 people fully vaccinated./.
