Teachers’ Day: The whole country shows deep gratitude to teachers

VGP - Various activities are being organized nationwide on the occasion of the Việt Nam Teachers’ Day (November 20). Over the past years, many mechanisms and policies have been issued to help teachers fulfill their missions as well as guarantee their legitimate interests.

The Vietnamese State has issued a wide range of policies to raise the quality of education and training sector, particularly the capacity of teachers, lecturers and managers, by qualifying teachers and updating teaching methods, stated Deputy PM, Minister of Education and Training Nguyễn Thiện Nhân.

Deputy PM Nhân made the statement on the Việt Nam Teachers' Day at an interview with VGP on the future goals of the sector as well as the State's accountability to teachers who are nurturing the country’s future masters.

The Ministry of Education and Training has also cooperated with the Singapore Education Institute to train 500 rectors for secondary schools.

To improve the living standards and working conditions for teachers in remote, disadvantaged and mountainous areas, in 2008, the Government has implemented the Program to build solid schools and public houses for teachers in these areas. 

Until now, over 30,000 teachers have received their new homes.

Acknowledging significant contributions made by over 1 million teachers throughout the country, the Deputy PM stressed that "The country’s prosperity much depends on the performance of over 1 million teachers. It is an lofty mission of teachers".

Citing the teachers' contributions to the country's education and training sector

To celebrate the Việt Nam Teachers' Day this year, many activities have been organized across the country.

Particularly, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết on November 17 signed a Decision, conferring the titles “People’s Teacher” to 101 teachers and the “Eminent Teacher” to 815 ones for their outstanding contributions to the development of education sector.

In recent years, many educational policies have been legalized, such as the Education Law (2005), Vocational Training Law (2006), Resolution 14/2005/NQ-CP of the Government on comprehensive renovation of Việt Nam's tertiary education in 2006-2010, PM's Instruction 33/2006/CT-TTg on eradicating negative practices in education and training, and many other legal documents adopted by ministries and sectors, especially by the Ministry of Education and Training.

The State has issued salary and allowance policies for teachers to ensure their sound incomes, so that they can make full use of and improve their talent and professional skills.

The Government schedules to build around 67,000m2 of public housing for teachers with its bonds.
