The Government leader made the statement on Friday during his reception for Alok Sharma, the UK Cabinet Minister and the President of the 26th United Nations climate change conference of the parties (COP26) to be held in Glasgow this November.

Pham spoke highly of the UK’s efforts to organize the COP26 in person, affirming Viet Nam’s willingness to work closely with the UK and partners to ensure the success of the conference with more specific and stronger commitments to supporting developing countries in implementing the Paris Agreement on climate change, especially in accessing financial resources and technology transfer.

He asked the UK government to provide financial and technological assistance and share experience to help Viet Nam transform its economy into low-carbon one and improve its capacity to adapt to climate change.

PM Pham also suggested the British side facilitate Viet Nam’s access to COVID-19 vaccines and consider promoting the transfer of vaccine production technology to the Southeast Asian country.

For his part, Alok Sharma hailed Viet Nam as one of the British Government’s important partners in preparation for the COP26, while applauding the nation’s commitment and active participation in multilateral frameworks on climate change.

Praising Viet Nam’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, he affirmed that the UK will continue to support Viet Nam in coping with climate change, including accelerating green energy development.

Sharma handed over a letter from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson inviting PM Chinh to attend the COP26, hoping that the Vietnamese leader would arrange time to participate in such an important conference./.
