In June 2020, Viet Nam exported fresh lychees to Japan for the first time after five years of negotiations and preparations to meet the East Asian market’s quality standards.

Earlier this month, Japan has authorized Vietnamese quarantine officers to replace their Japanese counterparts to directly supervise batches of lychee exports, which must be sterilized prior to going to the country, said Director of the Plant Protection Department at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Trung.

Bac Giang has 28,126 hectares of lychee with total output of 180,000 tons this year, an increase of 15,000 tons against 2020.

Before Japan, the Vietnamese fresh lychee was also exported to several Asian countries including China, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand, as well as other tough markets such as the U.S., the EU, and Australia./.
