Talking with overseas Vietnamese, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết maintained, “the Vietnamese community abroad is an indispensable part of the Vietnamese nation and the united bloc of ethnic groups in Vietnam. They are a contributing factor in the country’s rise over the past years”.

Highlighting their great contribution to the fatherland's development, the State President appreciated their desire to return home for investment and business and thanked them for their assistance and sympathy with fellow countrymen at home during the tough times of natural disaster attacks.

He confirmed that the Vietnamese State will do whatever it can to facilitate their interaction with people at home, gladdening them with the news that the State is going to exempt Vietnamese holders of foreign passports from visa when they return the homeland.

At the meeting, a number of overseas Vietnamese made speeches showing their gladness as to the country’s brilliant development. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Đăng Hưng said, “I am honored to be treated here, the place where the APEC Leaders Meeting used to convene. The year 2007 is expected to bring our country new opportunities and challenges, but, we, the Vietnamese away from their homeland, promise to strive our best to build our native land”.
