Weekly COVID-19 update: 155 new cases, 186 recoveries

VGP - Viet Nam reported 155 new COVID-19 cases and 186 recoveries from February 15-21.

The latest cases comprised 154 local infection cases and one imported case, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The local infection cases were documented in Ha Noi (three), Quang Ninh (one), and Hai Duong (150).

Meanwhile, the imported patient is a Japanese expert (patient 2229).

Since the resurgence of the local transmissions from January 27, there have been 791 cases in 13 localities, namely Hai Duong (611), Quang Ninh (60), HCMC (36), Ha Noi (35), Gia Lai (27), Binh Duong (six), Bac Ninh (five), Dien Bien (three), Hoa Binh (two), Bac Giang (two), Hung Yen (two), Hai Phong (one), and Ha Giang (one).

As of 6:05pm on Sunday, the national patient tally touched 2,383, including 1,484 locally transmitted cases and 35 fatalities.

With 186 new recovered cases, the total recoveries increased to 1,717.

A total of 120,827 people who had been in close contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients or entered Viet Nam from pandemic-hit regions are being placed under medical surveillance and quarantine nationwide. Of these, 588 are in hospitals, 12,984 in state-designated establishments and 107,255 others at places of residence.

Last week, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc ordered the health sector to take necessary measures to make COVID-19 vaccines available in Viet Nam this month.

Viet Nam is also stepping up vaccine research and development, with homegrown vaccine Nano Covax scheduled to enter second phase of human trials on February 26.

As the pandemic remains complicated, the Ministry of Health called on people to remain proactive in pandemic prevention and control by continuing to wear face masks when going out, disinfecting frequently, maintaining a safe distance, refraining from mass gatherings, and making medical declarations./.
