The Italian Government soundly assesses quality of tra and basa catfish imported from Việt Nam

According to the Vietnamese Trade Agency in Italy, Mr. Romano Marabelli, head of the Department of Veterinary Public Health, Nutrition and Food Safety under the Italian Ministry for Labor, Health and Social Policies, on Tuesday said Italy and the EU do not apply any restriction against the import of Vietnamese tra and basa catfish.

The official made the statement in his response to the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s complaint about the rumor which led to the boycott and decreasing consumption of the goods in Italy.

Mr. Marabelli confirmed that in its document delivered at a parliamentary hearing, the Italian Ministry for Labor, Health and Social Policies stressed that there is no threat relating to tra and basa catfish imported from Việt Nam.

Last month, Spain and Egypt separately recognized safety of basa and tra catfish imported from Việt Nam.
